CONCERNED FOR WATER RESOURCES - WORLD WATER DAY- MARCH 22 At the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in 1992 it was proposed to determine March 22 as the date when shall be annually celebrated the International Day of freshwaters. Assembly of the United Nations accepted the proposal and from the beginning of 1993 this day has been celebrated by diverting attention and emphasis on various aspects of freshwater. The UN report points out that the water resources are constantly decreasing due to population growth, pollution and climate change. In the next 20 years, the average amount of water that people use will be less disposed to third. Experts urge that the save water every day and in every place and emphasize that what seems to us a little bit and irrelevant today, someone else in the future will mean a lot. The time time when the need for water exceed supplies of water is getting closer and closer. Water is the basis of life and the basic ingredient and part of every living being. We are nearing the time when the demand for water exceed supplies. After that it is necessary to cease development, start fighting for water, and there is even a risk of interstate wars, experts warn. They point out that the wastewater treatment is essential and amount to very bad information that every day into rivers, lakes and watercourses throws six million tons of waste. In particular, it is emphasized and wanted the most serious attitude toward the water, because the number of inhabitants of our planet is rapidly increasing, the need for water even faster, and the amount of water does not change. By 2025 two thirds of humanity will feel a serious water shortage. Estimating experts say that about 1.1 billion people lack access to safe drinking water and 2.5 billion are provided with basic sanitation. Six thousand children under five die every day from diseases caused by contaminated water, and due to the lack of or lack of water, die each year five million people, which is ten times more than the number killed in all the wars in the world annually. In Serbia, there is less and less healthy spring water. Experts say that the main reason is in uncontrolled deforestation. It is known that the bombing of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1999 and the use of ammunition with "depleted uranium" polluted sources of water and springs especially in southern Serbia. The big problem in Serbia is the consequence of water pollution because of unregulated landfills. The floods that occurred in the City of Nis and part of the territory of the Municipality Palilula, Novo Selo, Medjurovo, Bubanj village, showed our relationship with this resource and source of water pollution. This is not an isolated example in Serbia. The reluctance, disorganization and lack of responsibility so that the ecological picture of our daily space collapses. How to reach sustainability?
